Grandson of Eli and son of Phinehas; both men died when the ark of God was captured by the Philistines. Phinehas' wife was so distraught at the news that she died in childbirth, but not before giving her son his name. He was the brother of Ahitub.

Ichabod (ĭk'əbŏd) [Heb.,=inglorious], in the Bible, son of Phinehas and grandson of the High Priest Eli. He was born at the hour of the Ark's capture by the Philistines and was named to commemorate the unfortunate event.
