Ichinomiya (一宮市 Ichinomiya-shi) is a city located in Aichi, Japan. The city is often called Owari-Ichinomiya to avoid confusion with another Ichinomiya (now part of the city of Toyokawa). The pre-expansion city was once part of now-defunct Nakashima District until September 1, 1921.
Ichinomiya literally means "the first shrine" of the province. In case of this city, it is the Masumida Shrine of the Owari Province.
On April 1, 2005, the city was mathematically expanded by absorbing the city of Bisai and the town of Kisogawa from Haguri District which will make the city the fourth largest in Aichi Prefecture, only behind (by largest to 3rd largest) Nagoya, Toyota, and Toyohashi. Due to the this merger, the city now has a population of at least 380,000 and the city has scheduled to become a Core City sometime in the future.

Activities
Ichinomiya has a number of traditional Japanese activities, particularly Martial Arts. There is an Aikido, Judo, Karate (Kyokushin style), Kendo, Kyūdō, and Shorinji Kempo club.
There are a number of small bars in Ichinomiya. One of the most famous was Machio's, a small bar famous for its hospitality to foreigners. Before Machio's, the place for foreigners to gather was Teams (owned and operated by Aussie Jamie Simpson), Cool Bar and Jet Bar. Unfortunately, Teams and Machio's have closed. Tatsuya's (Hawaiian bar), Rookie's (sports bar), and Panchos (Mexican restaurant/bar) attracts occasional foreigners. A new addition, Sports Caster, is a sports bar that opened near the station in July 2008.

History
- 1889: The town of Ichinomiya was founded by the merges of Ichinomiya and Ichishiki.
- September 1, 1921: The city was founded.
- 1940: Merged with the villages of Haguri and Nishinari.
- 1955: Merged with surrounding 8 municipalities.
- April 1, 2002: Ichinomiya became a Special City.
- April 1, 2005: Absorbed the city of Bisai and the town of Kisogawa from Haguri District.
