Plot

Pathé executives reportedly wanted to name this ten-chapter Western serial "The Terror of the Hills," but screenwriter Frank Leon Smith and director Robert F. Hill opted for the less flashy Idaho. Unfortunately, although they won the title war, Smith and Hill were saddled with less than exciting leading players in Mahlon Hamilton and Vivian Rich, neither of whom was much competition for the studio's reigning team of Allene Ray and Walter Miller. Smith's well-written story told of Carter's Creek, a bustling mining camp, and of how Beth Cameron (Rich) seeks to avenge the murder of her father (Frederick Vroom) by donning men's clothing and raiding the vicinity. Soon the girl is in desperate peril and would surely have been murdered herself if not for stalwart dispatch rider Boston Graham (Hamilton), who saves her in the nick of time -- again and again. Frank Leon Smith based his screenplay on The Girl Vigilante, a novel by pulp writer Theodore Burrell, and the entire concoction was produced by C.W. Patton, a former cattle rancher. ~ Hans J.
