Review

Captured Briton warrior Glaucus (Richard Harrison) must contend with the evil machinations of the Empress Messalina (Lisa Gastoni) while he attempts to free his countrymen from slavery. Vigorous and well-staged hand-to-hand combat, both in and out of the gladiatorial arena, is the highlight of this fast-paced costume cliffhanger from genre jack of all trades Umberto Lenzi, whose curriculum vitae encompasses almost every genre of Italian popular cinema, from sword-and-sandal films to the gruesome Cannibal Ferox (1981). Harrison provides his usual mix of physical prowess and stoic derring-do, and the sultry Gastoni lends a whiff of mild Sadean thrills as the power-hungry empress. The film was seen on American television as part of the syndicated series Sons of Hercules, which repackaged a number of unrelated peplum (including 1963's Perseus the Invincible, also starring Harrison) as adventures featuring the mythic he-man's far-flung and equally heroic offspring. ~ Paul Gaita, All Movie Guide
