What at first appears to be a simple case of food poisoning rapidly escalates into a case of political treachery and intrigue not seen since the Cold War as filmmakers Jos De Putter and Masha Novikova explore the troubling death of former Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation lieutenant-colonel Alexander Litvinenko. In 2004, De Putter conducted an arresting interview with Litvinenko in which the subject not only detailed his stint on the secret police, but his experience in Chechnya, his collaboration with slain journalist Anna Polikovskaya, and his investigation into the Russian bombings that seemed to steer Vladamir Putin to power, as well. Two short years later, Litvinenko was dead -- an apparent result of consuming bad sushi at a London restaurant. When the investigation into Litvinenko's death revealed that he had been poisoned with polonium-210, the world's most famous spy was suddenly thrust into the headlines worldwide. In this release, filmmakers De Putter and Novikova offer a provocative portrait of the ex-Federal Security Service officer while also highlighting how he seemed to have foretold his own untimely death. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
