In 1997, Philippine rock band the Erratics released their debut album, In Stereo. Much of the music on the record is performed with an imaginative acoustic touch. The charming "Kamalayan" ("Consciousness") grooves on a spirited backbeat and features pleasant, harmonious singing, as well as a stinging electric guitar solo. The upbeat "Asar Talo" ("Mad About Losing") has an American country feel to it, replete with slide guitar fills and a folksy chord progression and chorus. "Workshift" finds lead singer Jeremy Flora putting a gruff edge to his voice, giving the song a more penetrating sound, as also occurs on "Survey Song No. 13." "Alas Kwartro" ("Four O'Clock") is another charming song, containing a catchy chord progression and a delightful melody. While Flora's singing isn't always technically proficient, his deep, passionate delivery has an appealing quality to it, and accounts for much of the album's success. "Ayoko Ng Maraming Asukal" ("I Don't Like Much Sugar"), featuring Flora accompanied only by tender acoustic guitar, is plaintive and brimming with sincerity. [The CD version of the album contains three bonus tracks, including the reggae-like "Puro Asa" ("Always Asking for Something"), which contains an impressive electric guitar solo, and the hard-edged rock tune "Confusion."] ~ David Gonzales, All Music Guide
