independent television market

1. Home market for an independent television station (see independent station).

2. Television market area where the viewing audience is inconsistent with the typical network audience, because the local television stations pull the largest share of the audience. Generally, where there is network programming at the same time as local programming, the network programs will draw the largest audience. In an independent television market, this is not the case.
