Indian

Wikipedia: Indian (drinking game)

Indian is a drinking game (also called Thumper) that requires at least three players.

Rules

At the start of the game, the players each choose a hand sign to represent themselves. This is done by making the sign while speaking its description/name; no player may use a sign that has already been claimed by another. The first player makes their sign followed by the sign of another player. That player then repeats their own sign followed by that of someone else, and play continues until someone makes a mistake, such as not being able to recall someone's sign, or giving a sign that isn't used by anyone. Once a mistake is made, that player takes a drink and then starts the next round. During play, the other players beat their hands upon the table (or thighs, if seated on the floor) in a rhythmic fashion while chanting, trying to sound like a stereotypical Indian "war dance".

It is possible to return play to a single player every other turn. In this way, an alliance of players can gang up on a particular player until he is too intoxicated to continue.

When playing the variation of the game called "Thumper", a shouted rhyme precedes the start of the round. The person who last made a mistake screams "What's the name of the game we play?", and everyone must respond "Thumper!". Then the leader asks "Why do we play it?" to which everyone shouts "To get fucked up!". This is all done with hands pounding on table.

Common hand signs

Backwards Jack-off

Form a circle with your thumb and all fingers, as if grasping a cylinder, but with your thumb and index finger at the base. Move your hand in an up-and-down motion.

Flying Asshole

Place one hand near your waist on the opposite side of your body. Make a circle with your index finger and thumb, extending the other fingers. Move your hand diagonally until your arm is stretched skyward.

Flaming Tits

Place both hands in front of your nipples, palms down with fingers extended outwards. Wiggle your fingers.

One Fucking Feather

Place one hand behind your head and extend your middle finger. Move your hand over the top of your head towards your forehead.

Virgin Mary

Place both hands at the base of your ribcage. Move them away and downward, pantomiming the shape of a pregnant woman.

Pile of Shit

Make a loose fist with one hand and rest the other hand on top of it.

Other rules

Because polite society considers it impolite to point at anyone with your finger, all players must use their elbow instead. Anyone using their finger must take a drink.

At any time, anyone may call out "Social!" and everyone takes a drink. This is usually done if a round has gone on for a long time without any mistakes, or may be called by a player whose next gulp will drain their own cup.

Social Significance

This game was played at least as far back as the early '60s on American college campuses in the southeast. The YouTube videos listed below indicate that it is still popular.

Like Bullshit, the game's humor derives from its use of foul language, however this is only evidenced at the beginning of the game when the players declare the signs that they will be using. The game makes use of (and arguably perpetuates) "politically incorrect" memes about American Indian culture.
