Indian Oil, India's #1 oil refiner and former monopoly oil importer, has seen its opportunities uncapped. Of India's 20 refineries, the company owns 10, which have a combined capacity of 60.2 million metric tons per year (34% of India's total refining capacity). The group also owns more than 10,000 kilometers of pipeline and operates a chain of some 18,270 gas stations across India. India's largest commercial enterprise, Indian Oil has 71% of India's downstream pipeline throughput capacity, and its network of 35,000 retail outlets represents 49% of the country's petroleum products market share. The group also provides cooking gas to more than 50 million households. The government owns 80% of Indian Oil.
