Indianismo, sometimes Indigenismo, is a movement in Latin American literature that explores the beliefs and lifestyles of the Indigenous peoples, with a peak in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, but with recent resurgence. Often the term is used specifically to refer to works produced during the 1920s and 1930s.
Prominent indianista writers include José María Arguedas, Miguel Ángel Asturias, Jorge Icaza, João Guimarães Rosa, Ciro Alegría, and Juan León Mera.
