There's nothing average about Industrial Bank. Founded in 1988, Industrial Bank is one of China's first joint stock commercial banks. Through some 40 branches and more than 400 sub-branches across China, Industrial Bank offers standard deposit, loan, wealth management, credit card, and e-banking products and services to personal and commercial banking customers. Fujian Finance Department, a government institution, controls about a quarter of Industrial Bank, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Bank and Singapore's Tetrad Ventures together own about a fifth.

Banking Dictionary: Industrial Bank

State chartered finance company that makes consumer and commercial loans and accepts time deposits and interest-paying Negotiable Order of Withdrawal accounts. Industrial banks, once found in sixteen states, are today chartered in just five states, mostly in the western United States. The term has its roots in the early-20th-century finance companies that originated loans to industrial workers; back then, most commercial banks did not offer consumer loans. Also called industrial loan bank or industrial loan company.

Industrial Bank (SSE: 601166) was the old short name that was more commonly used in China from June 2001 thru March 3, 2003 for Industrial Bank Co.

The former Fujian Industrial Bank (福建兴业银行) was established on August 26, 1988, and had its first name change in June 2001, renaming itself as Fujian Industrial Bank Joint-Stock Corporation, Limited (福建兴业银行股份有限公司), but the name was long and the bank was referred by others in China simply as Industrial Bank (simplified Chinese: 兴业银行; traditional Chinese: 興業銀行; pinyin: Xīngyè Yínháng) instead.

The bank had yet another name change on March 3, 2003 to finally settle for its current name Industrial Bank Joint-Stock Corporation, Limited (兴业银行股份有限公司), or more commonly known as Industrial Bank Co.
