industrial location theory

Geography Dictionary: industrial location theory

Theories of the forces leading to the location of industrial activity. One choice might be the least-cost location. Another is the locational interdependence approach which stresses the influence of other enterprises especially under conditions of imperfect competition. A third is the profit maximization approach, although it is by no means certain that firms do maximize profits. See least-cost location, lösch model, weber's theory of industrial location.
