INFICON's vacuum instruments won't analyze how well your vacuum cleaner does on the living-room carpet. The company's products allow semiconductor manufacturers and others to monitor, analyze, and control production processes for high-tech goods, such as integrated circuits, disk-drive components, CDs, and DVDs. INFICON also offers leak-detection and vacuum-measurement products for applications in the auto, refrigeration, and air-conditioning industries. INFICON was spun off from Swiss conglomerate Oerlikon in 2000. Customers include Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum and Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology. Europe accounts for 45% of sales, while the Asia/Pacific region has grown to 30%.
