Information, Please

  • Country: US
  • Run Time: 1rl minutes

Plot

Released in November of 1939, Information Please was the first in a series of one-reel shorts based on the popular radio quiz program of the same name. Erudite host Clifton Fadiman presides over a panel of pundits, consisting on this occasion of pianist Oscar Levant, columnist Franklin P. Adams, sportswriter John Kieran and crime novelist Rex Stout. Essentially nothing more than filmed radio, the series coasted along on the likability of its panelists. Future Information Please filmed entries would include such question-fielders as Boris Karloff, John Gunther, Bennett Cerf and Gracie Allen (who was a lot smarter than she looked!) Though the film version of Information Please was of relatively short duration, the radio program, which invited the listeners to send in questions to "stump the experts," lasted from 1938 to 1948. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
