Biography

Bringing forth frenzied punk-pop-style tunes, Inspection 12 presents some distinct creations within the most fierce and rhythmic visions of power rock & roll. Dan McLintock (vocals, bass) and Scott Shad (drums) were the founding members of Inspection 12 in 1994, while still middle schoolers in Jacksonville, FL. Later joining the team were Pete Mosely (guitar, vocals) and Shad's cousin James Trimble (guitars), who finally closed Inspection's lineup in late 1997. During the following years, the band managed to appear on numerous shows, including playing on the same stage as No Use for a Name and Man Face. 1997's Inspection 12, their debut and self-titled album, was the first full-length of a series of four that the band managed to issue on their own. You're a Nation (1998) and Step Into the Fire (1999) were released before the band dissolved around the time of McLintock's high school graduation. He left town to join Christian punk act Craig's Brother in California (joining Limp for a time as well), but while on tour out west, he slipped an Inspection 12 album to NOFX's Fat Mike who liked what he heard. The 2000 self-released EP Home solidified his interest in a deal and the band (which McLintock had rejoined) ultimately signed with his Fat Wreck imprint Honest Don's Barely Legal Recordings that same year. Less than a year later, in March 2001, the Florida team suffered a major loss when drummer Scott Shad died in a car accident at age 18. However, the rest of the group still managed to record a fifth album, In Recovery, which hit record stores in May 2001; longtime friend Tim Grisnik joined on drums. The guys toured both coasts in support of the record, including dates with Whippersnapper, before Trimble decided he wanted to focus on school and departed in the spring of 2002. Inspection 12 pressed on as a trio and began work on their next disc, Ged Rad. But upon finishing it the next year, Honest Don's passed on the record, which led the guys (now back to a quartet with guitarist Matt Grondin on board) to release it independently in fall 2003. The guys then aligned with the European label Floppy Cow Records, who released Get Rad overseas and in the U.S. the following year. Inspection 12 then signed to Cali indie Takeover Records in November 2004, though activity remained sporadic as Mosely divided his time also playing with Yellowcard (and unsurprisingly concentrating moreso on that band). ~ Mario Mesquita Borges, All Music Guide

History

Fourteen-year-old Robert Reid (vocals), thirteen-year-old Dan McLintock (guitar, vocals), thirteen-year-old John Comee (bass)and eleven-year-old Scott Shad (drums, vocals) formed Inspection 12 in 1994 while in junior high school. They were influenced by the first wave of Southern Californian punk, which included bands such as Lagwagon and NOFX.

Inspection 12 released their first recordings on cassette in 1995 and 1996: an eponymous EP and the full-length Come, Hefe, Come!. Second guitarist Pete Mosely was also added to the lineup in December 1995. Their second album, titled Inspection 12, was released on compact disc in 1997. Later that year, Reid was asked to leave the band while McLintock took over as lead vocalist. You're A Nation was released in 1998. A month after its release Scott Shad's cousin, James Trimble was added as second guitarist, and Step Into The Fire was released in 1999 with the new lineup.

After graduating high school, McLintock left the band and his hometown along with Ryan Key of Yellowcard to join Craig's Brother. He also joined the band Limp and while on tour with Limp (Honest Don's), a copy of Step Into The Fire was given to Fat Wreck Chords label owner Fat Mike, who then asked the band to record the Home EP to be considered for his smaller label, Honest Don's Recordings. After the release of the Home EP in 2000, the band began recording its first album for Honest Don's, a mixture of re-recorded old songs and new songs.

In March 2001, eighteen-year-old drummer Scott Shad went into diabetic shock, passed out in his car and crashed. The death of Scott devastated the band and fans. They were uncertain of their future, but decided to continue, replacing Shad with lifelong friend Tim Grisnik. They named their first widely distributed album In Recovery before the death of Shad, which was released in May 2001 on Honest Don's Barely Legal Recordings.

Guitarist Trimble left the band after their 2002 In Recovery U.S. tour. In 2003, the new three-piece released the album Get Rad independently, after learning that the Honest Don's label would no longer support them. European record label Floppy Cow decided to press Get Rad and release it in Europe, Japan, and made a distribution deal with Suburban Home Records to sell it in the U.S.

Pete Mosely assisted fellow local band Yellowcard by helping to write and recording bass guitar on Ocean Avenue. He became the band's permanent bassist after the recording of the 2003 Capitol Records release Ocean Avenue but left shortly after the 2007 release Paper Walls.

Inspection 12 joined the Takeover Records roster in 2005. The current lineup is Dan McLintock, Pete Mosely, and Tim Grisnik (also of The Softer Side).

Since July 2006, guitarist James Trimble has rejoined the band. The current lineup is Dan McLintock, Pete Mosely, James Trimble, and Tim Grisnik.
