The Institute of Museum and Library Services does volumes for US museums and libraries. This independent federal agency is the primary source of government support and funding for the nation's 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. It awards grants, conducts research, and produces publications to help museums and libraries better serve their communities. The agency specifically focuses its efforts on improving technology and educational programs. Eligible museums include aquariums, gardens, historic houses, nature centers, planetariums, and zoos, as well as anthropology, art, history, and youth museums. Eligible libraries include those administered by school districts, municipalities, states, and universities.
