US Military Dictionary: International Red Cross

The International Movement of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent, an international humanitarian organization bringing relief to victims of war or natural disaster. The Red Cross was set up in 1864 at the instigation of the Swiss philanthropist Henri Dunant (1828-1910) according to the Geneva Convention, and its headquarters are in Geneva.
