1. Broken; intermitted; suddenly stopped.

2. (Bot.) Irregular; -- said of any arrangement whose symmetry is destroyed by local causes, as when leaflets are interposed among the leaves in a pinnate leaf.


 
 

Architectural element from which part has been elided (see elision). A pediment broken or open is interrupted.

 

A rarely used term describing an inflorescence having flowers unevenly distributed along the axis, with conspicuous gaps.
