Bella Abzug once remarked that she was born a feminist. Intimate Portrait: Bella Abzug tells the life story of a girl born in 1920 to Russian immigrant parents, a daughter who grew up strong-minded and confident. Abzug earned a law degree at Columbia University, at a time when women were discouraged and excluded from professional careers. As an attorney, she went on to battle Joseph McCarthy, the KKK, and above-ground nuclear testing. In 1990, she co-founded the Women's Environment and Development Organization. Academy award-winning actress Lee Grant narrates this Lifetime program. The episode features interviews with Marlo Thomas, Gloria Steinem, Shirley MacLaine, and others. ~ Betsy Boyd, All Movie Guide
