(′in·trə′zōn·əl ′söil)

(geology) A group of soils with well-developed characteristics that reflect the dominant influence of some local factor of relief, parent material, or age over the usual effect of vegetation and climate.


 
 
Geography Dictionary: intrazonal soil

A soil affected more by local factors than by climate, unlike a zonal soil. Thus, waterlogging gives rise to gley soils and a parent rock of pure calcium carbonate will produce a rendzina.
