inversion of foot

Inward rotation of the foot so that the sole turns medially, inwards and sideways. Inversion during running and walking results in the body weight being applied mainly on the outer edge of the foot. The muscles which effect inversion include the tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum, flexor hallucis longus, and the tibialis anterior. Compare eversion.
