Review

This is a showcase of recordings that broke out on Holland, Dozier & Holland's Invictus Records, one of three post-Motown labels set up by HDH. Thirty years later these tracks still groove -- even the flops. Chart hits including Chairmen of the Board's "Give Me Just a Little More Time," Freda Payne's "Band of Gold," Eighth Day's "She's Not Just Another Woman," and Holland & Dozier's "Why Can't We Be Lovers" and "Don't Leave Me Starving" anchor this 22-song beast with other slots ably filled by lesser-known pleasers by Glass House, the Barrino Brothers, Melvin Davis, Danny Woods, and Tyrone Edwards. Not complete or definitive by any means -- Invictus dropped a long string of singles and albums galore -- but it's an excellent overview of hip-shaking company's infectious creations. ~ Andrew Hamilton, All Music Guide
