Iolanthe (Sullivan: Iolanthe). Mezzo-Soprano. Banished from fairyland for marrying a mortal, she has a half-fairy son, Strephon, in love with Phyllis, a ward in chancery. He does not know that his father is the Lord Chancellor, who himself wants to marry Phyllis. Iolanthe reveals herself to her mortal husband to plead for her son. Aria: He loves! If in bygone years.
