Ireland Inc. was incorporated on February 20, 2001 under the laws of the State of Nevada under the name Merritt Ventures Corp. On December 19, 2005, the Company changed its name to Ireland Inc. It is considered to be an exploration stage company. The Company is focused on the discovery and extraction of precious metals from mineral deposits in the Southwestern United States. In February 2008, it acquired its lead project, a prospective gold, silver and calcium carbonate property located in Esmeralda County, Nevada that it calls the ‘Columbus Project.' It competes with other mineral resource exploration and development companies for the acquisition of new mineral properties, the services of contractors, equipment and financing.
