This article is a list of kings who reigned in Gaelic Ireland. During this period, Ireland was divided into numerous clann territories and kingdoms (known as túatha). These túatha often competed for control of resources and thus they continually grew and shrank (in both size and number). In 1541 the English monarchy began to re-conquer the island. In 1607 this re-conquest resulted in the Flight of the Earls, which marked the end of the Gaelic order.
