Plot

A pair of American pilots are forced to cooperate with their Soviet counterparts on a mission to destroy a Middle Eastern nuclear weapons site in this predictable, low-budget action sequel. The first Iron Eagle's rebellious fly boy Cooper (Mark Humphreys) has returned, as has his gruff mentor Chappy (Louis Gossett Jr. as yet another military man). They must work with two Russian pilots, one of whom is a beautiful woman that handsome young Cooper naturally sets out to woo. An extended build-up, including the requisite government conspiracy, leads to the climactic final battle. Average-at-best production values fail to elevate the film above a derivative screenplay, although the film did find enough success to produce further installments in the series. ~ Judd Blaise, All Movie Guide

Iron Eagle II is a 1988 action film about a joint United States/Soviet task force formed to counter the threat of an unnamed Middle Eastern country. The task force is led by US Air Force Colonel (briefly promoted to Brigadier General during the film) Charles 'Chappy' Sinclair (Louis Gossett, Jr.). The Middle Eastern country is threatening both superpowers with nuclear ICBMs. As the task force attempts to accomplish its goals, it must overcome political sabotage as well as cultural and personal grudges. U.S. Air Force pilot, Captain Matt Cooper (Mark Humphrey) a former wingman of Doug Masters (Jason Gedrick) is an integral part of the task force as the flight leader. The film grossed $10,497,324.

Iron Eagle II was filmed on location in Israel. Filming locations included the Israeli Air Force base near Haifa, the desert flatlands, the mountains, and the coast of the Dead Sea. Israeli Air Force pilots performed the aerial maneuvers for the film.

Iron Eagle II is the sequel to the 1986 film Iron Eagle and itself was followed by two sequels: Aces: Iron Eagle III and Iron Eagle IV. This was the final movie in which Jason Gedrick reprises his role as Doug Masters before being replaced by Jason Cadieux for Iron Eagle IV.
