(Intermediate System to Intermediate System) An ISO protocol that provides dynamic routing between routers. IS-IS is an interior gateway protocol (IGP) and was the first comprehensive link state protocol. IS-IS was the basis for the OSPF and NLSP routing protocols. See IGP and link state protocol.
