ISO 3166-2:IT is the entry in ISO 3166-2, part of the ISO 3166 standard published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which defines codes for the names of the principal subdivisions of Italy (whose ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code is IT).
Currently two levels of subdivisions are assigned codes:
- 20 regions — Each code consists of two digits. The first digit indicates the geographical region where the subdivision is in:
- 2, 3, 4: Northern Italy
- 5: Central Italy (excluding Lazio)
- 6, 7: Southern Italy (including Lazio)
- 8: Insular Italy
- 107 provinces[note 1] — Each code starts with IT-, followed by two letters, which is currently used in the vehicle registration plates of Italy (except Forlì-Cesena and Pesaro e Urbino which have changed their vehicle codes from FO to FC and PS to PU respectively, and Roma whose vehicle code is ROMA instead of RM). The letters for Medio Campidano (VS) are taken from its capitals: Villacidro and Sanluri.

Current codes
Codes and subdivision names are listed as in the official standard published by the ISO 3166 Maintenance Agency (ISO 3166/MA). Click on the button in the header to sort each column.
Regions
These codes are defined in the official standard without the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code of the country as prefix, and thus do not guarantee uniqueness in a global context by themselves. They can be completed by adding IT-.
