Wikipedia: ISO 3166-2:RO

ISO 3166-2:RO is the entry in ISO 3166-2, part of the ISO 3166 standard published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which defines codes for the names of the principal subdivisions of Romania (whose ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code is RO).

Currently 41 departments and 1 municipality are assigned codes.[note 1] Each code starts with RO-, followed by one letter (for the municipality) or two letters (for the departments), which is currently used in the vehicle registration plates of Romania.
