Iturea, Itureans

 

A people living in a region that included the Massayas Plain (Beqa Valley) and the mountainous parts of the Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon. south of Mount Hermon; The origins of the Itureans are uncertain, with some scholars relating them to the Jetur mentioned in Gen 25:13-15, Chron I:29-32 and 5:19., and others to the Arameans. It is believed that the Itureans in NT times inhabited parts of the Golan and the Hauran, and especially in the area around Mount Hermon. in NT times it was part of the area ruled by the tetrarch Philip, son of Herod.
