Dictionary: I·vo·ry Coast   (ī'və-rē, īv') pronunciation

A section of coastal western Africa along the Gulf of Guinea roughly corresponding to present-day Côte d'Ivoire. It was named for the large quantities of ivory traded there in precolonial times.
