(b Mewe, 3 Jan 1853; d Frankfurt, 22 Jan 1916). German composer and teacher. He studied with Moscheles, Richter and Reinecke at the Leipzig Conservatory. An admired teacher at the Hoch Conservatory, Frankfurt (from 1883), he wrote several pedagogical works. His compositions, influenced by Ukrainian folk music, reveal his contrapuntal mastery.

Iwan Knorr (3 January 1853 – 22 January 1916) was a German teacher of music. A native of Mewe, he attended the Leipzig Conservatory before moving to Russia, where he spent several years teaching composition. In 1883 he settled in Frankfurt, where he joined the faculty of the Hoch Conservatory; in 1908 he became director of the school. As a teacher he exerted great influence; among his pupils were Bernhard Sekles, Ernest Bloch, Ernst Toch, Hans Pfitzner, and Cyril Scott. Knorr died in Frankfurt.
