Izumi gives people food for thought (not to mention their appetites) in Japan. The company, founded in Hiroshima in 1961, is a leading regional operator of supermarkets and hypermarkets (which in addition to groceries sell apparel, consumer electronics, housewares, and other general merchandise) in the Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu regions of Japan. Izumi boasts more than 80 stores under the You Me Town banner and is busy adding more. The company opened its first hypermarket in 1990 -- You Me (Dream) Town. More recently, Izumi has expanded its market reach into restaurant, sushi, and doughnut shop operations through its subsidiaries. The regional retailer also issues its own Youme credit card.
