J. A. Pierce was an American college football coach who served as the first head coach for the University of Tennessee football team. He coached the Volunteers from 1899-1900, compling a record of 9-4-1. At the time of his service, there were no assistant coaches, which meant that he had the sole responsibility for coaching the team.
During the 1920s, Pierce coached at Corsicana High School in Corsicana, Texas.[1]
