James Michael Muro (credited as Jimmy Muro or James Muro earlier in his career, and J. Michael Muro since 2005) is a BAFTA-nominated cinematographer and independent film director. He is known primarily for his Steadicam work. In the late 1980s and 1990s he was James Cameron's Steadicam operator of choice, working on Cameron's hit movies The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, True Lies and Titanic.
He also did Steadicam and B-camera operating on Kevin Costner's Academy Award-winning epic Dances with Wolves, contributing to Director of Photography Dean Semler's Oscar win for Best Cinematography.
In 1986, Muro began his career by directing the low-budget cult horror movie Street Trash.
