Jabin

Bible Guide: Jabin

1. King of Hazor, head of a coalition of Canaanite kings which fought against Joshua (Josh 11:1). The Canaanite kings gathered at the Waters of Merom in Upper Galilee and were defeated by Joshua (Josh 11:7-9), who burned Hazor and slew Jabin (Josh 11:10-11).

2. A Canaanite king who reigned in Hazor (Judg 4:2) and oppressed the tribes of Israel in that area for 20 years (Judg 4:3). A coalition of the northern tribes under the command of Deborah and Barak defeated his forces at the River Kishon. Jabin's commander-in-chief Sisera, was subsequently killed by Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite (Judg 4:21). The victory is recorded in detail in the Song of Deborah (Judg chap. 5), and briefly in Psalms 83:9.
