Jabrayil (Cəbrayıl) is a rayon of Azerbaijan. This region is now completely under the control of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, who have named it Jrakn, after capturing it during the Nagorno-Karabakh War. Prior to the war, the population of the rayon was 61,100 inhabitants, of whom 6,300 lived in the city of Jabrayil, nearly all Azeri.[1][2]

Under Armenian Control

Jabrayil is often referred as the loneliest village in all of Nagorno-Karabakh. Currently Jabrayil has a population of 2. The only inhabitants are Sanasar (64 y.o) and Gohar Karapetian (59 y.o). The nearest human habitation is the village of Norashen, a veritable metropolis by comparison, with a population of 100 people living in new houses built by the New York-based charity the Armenian General Benevolent Union. Jabrayil is situated at a distance of 200 metres from Norashen. Armenian General Benevolent Union plans to build 20 houses in the village by 2008. Another village called Pareshen is also located within the former district [3][4]Pictures.
