Jack Peter Shepherd (born 14 January 1988) is a British actor. He is best known for portraying David Platt in the ITV1 soap opera Coronation Street. He joined the show in April 2000, taking over the role from Thomas Ormson.

Shepherd was born in Pudsey, Leeds, West Yorkshire, and now lives in Boothstown, Salford.

He has taken time out of Coronation Street to do theatre work, including the role of Riff in a production of West Side Story as part of the The Yorkshire School of Performing Arts[1] He has also appeared in Oliver! at Bradford's Alhambra theatre.[2]

Recently he appeared in Ghosthunting with Coronation Street on the Isle of Man.

In 2007, he won the Best Bad Boy Award at the Inside Soap Awards and in 2008, he won 'Best Villain' at the British Soap Awards.

Jack uses his middle initial in his stage name as there is already a well-known British actor named Jack Shepherd.

Personal life

He and girlfriend Lauren Shippey have been together since they were 14 years old. In 2008, they announced they were expecting their first child, was due in February 2009.[3] Shepherd revealed that the baby wasn't planned, but he is "chuffed" about becoming a dad. [4] Their daughter, Nyla Rae,[5] was born on 13 February 2009.[6]

Shepherd stated that many men think he is gay due to the way he dresses.[7]
