Jacob-Sigisbert Adam

Art Encyclopedia: Jacob-Sigisbert Adam

(b Nancy, 28 Oct 1670; d Nancy, 6 May 1747). He is said to have been a pupil of C?sar Bagard. He worked for Leopold, Duke of Lorraine, both on the decorative sculpture at the Palais Ducal at Nancy and at the ch?teau of Lun?ville, and his small bronzes and terracottas were much admired by contemporary collectors. Typical of his small-scale work are the terracotta statuettes of Bacchus and Jupiter (Nancy, Mus. B.-A.). They are attractive but without marked character.
