Jael

("mountain goat")

The wife of Heber the Kenite, she killed Sisera, the general of Jabin king of Hazor (Judg 4:17-22). After the defeat of the Canaanite forces by the coalition of the northern tribes under the command of Deborah and Barak, Sisera fled, taking refuge in Jael's tent. With a feeling of security inspired by her hospitality, he fell asleep. Jael then took a hammer and drove a tent peg through his temple (Judg 4:21). Thus, as already indicated in the prophecy of Deborah (Judg 4:9), Israel was saved by a woman. The victory entirely smashed the power of Jabin king of Hazor (Judg 4:23-24).
