(1930– )
American architect. He trained under L. Kahn, and established his own practice in 1962. His works include the Teijin Research Institutes, Tokyo (1963–4), and Osaka (1964–71); Rosemary Hill Dormitory and Academic Buildings, Wallingford CT (1971); offices at 500 Park Avenue, NYC (1980); the Seamen's Church Institute, NYC (1991–2); Centre for the Arts Theater, Yerba Buena Gardens, San Francisco, CA (1993); the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Akron, OH (1992–5); and the Meshantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center, CT (1992–7). His interest in the importance of context was exemplified in his Context and Responsibility (1998—with others).
