Biography

James Williamson was one of Great Britain's first filmmakers and producers. An early interest in photography led Williamson to purchase a projector in 1896 and turn it into a motion picture camera. He then began making short films in his backyard. He became a fairly successful filmmaker and in his movies employed cross-cutting and parallel action techniques. Williamson built a studio at Brighton in 1902 and two years later founded the Williamson Kinematographic Company to create motion picture equipment and film stock. He left the fledgling film industry in 1909. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
