Janaki Ballabh Patnaik (Oriya: ଜାନକୀ ବଲଭ ପଟନାଵକ){{(born January 3, 1927) is a leader of the Indian National Congress and a former chief minister of Orissa, in which capacity he served for the longest time on record.

After the completion of his early education at Khurda High School, he passed his B.A. degree in Sanskrit from the Utkal University in 1947 and passed his M.A. degree in Political Science from the Banaras Hindu University in 1949. In 1950, he became the President of the Orissa state unit of the youth wing of the Congress. In 1980, he became the Union Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation and Labour.

Currently he is the Leader of the Opposition in the Orissa Vidhan Parishad.

Intellectual pursuits

He is recognised as an eminent poet and writer, and has won awards from the Orissa Sahitya Akademi and Sahitya Akademi.

Controversy

He was allegedly involved in cover up of Anjana Mishra rape case .[1][2]
