Janek Prus

Who's Who in Opera: Janek Prus

Prus, Janek (Janáček: The Makropulos Case). Tenor. Son of Jaroslav Prus, contender in a long lawsuit. Janek falls in love with Kristina, daughter of the law clerk Vítek, but she gives him up for her art (she is training to be a singer). His hopeless love for the diva Emilia Marty leads him to commit suicide. Created (1926) by Antonín Pelz (who later changed his surname to the Czech spelling of Pelc).
