Janine Marie Lindemulder, also known as Janine Marie James, (born November 14, 1968) is an American exotic dancer and adult film actress, best known for her work in American pornographic films (typically credited as just Janine), during the mid-1990s and a 2004–2005 comeback.[1]

Early career
She was born in La Mirada, California. After graduating from high school in 1987, Lindemulder supplemented her income by working as a stripper.[2][unreliable source?] In 1987, she modeled for Penthouse magazine, making her first appearance in the December 1987 issue, as the Pet of the Month.[3] She appeared several more times in Penthouse over the next ten years, and was chosen as Pet of the Year Runner-Up for 1990.[4]
Lindemulder attempted to take roles in mainstream films early in her career. Her first role came in the 1988 Italian film titled Bersaglio sull'autostrada.[5] Known as Moving Target in English-speaking countries, she was credited as Janine Linde and the film also starred Linda Blair of The Exorcist fame. She went on to act in other mainstream films including Spring Break USA and Caged Fury although neither was very successful.[6] Her appearance in Penthouse led to a role in a video released by that company titled Penthouse Satin & Lace that featured various models from the magazine.[7] This eventually led to her debut in the adult film industry.[8]
Adult film career
Lindemulder made her adult film debut in the 1992 movie Andrew Blake´s Hidden Obsessions.[9] She was featured in two more adult movies before joining Vivid Video and becoming one of their contract girls, who are collectively referred to as the Vivid Girls.[10] Within her contract, Lindemulder worked under a girl-only policy which meant she would do adult work only with other women; this became her trademark of sorts.[9][11] Her first film with Vivid was titled Parlor Games and she would go on to be featured in over fifty other titles through her run with the company. She was named as the best actress of lesbian scenes. Many women claimed that they wanted to have sex with her.
During her tenure with Vivid, Lindemulder continued to branch out into other forms of entertainment. She formed half of the exotic dancing duo Blondage, along with Julia Ann, and the duo headlined several videos for Vivid.[12] She received a part on the Howard Stern film Private Parts as the wife of a camp director.[13] She also appeared on Stern's television and radio shows as a featured guest. Lindemulder was the cover model for Blink-182's album Enema of the State and appeared in their video for the song "What's My Age Again?" as a nurse. She appeared in several other music videos as well.
In 1999, Lindemulder announced she was leaving the adult film industry to pursue a career as a kindergarten teacher.[14] She also stated her reason for leaving was to focus more on raising her child.[14] Her retirement lasted until April 2004 when she announced that she would be making a comeback and working with men as well as women.[1] She signed with her former company, Vivid Video, and starred in eight films under their brand. Her first film scene with a male was with Nick Manning in the film Maneater.[15] After her contract with Vivid expired, Janine signed with Digital Playground and was featured in several films from that company.[16] In November 2005, Lindemulder announced on her official website's forum that she was once again retiring from adult films[2] but in January 2006 she won two AVN Awards[17] and subsequently returned to the adult film industry.[2] Her latest film stars another well-known porn star, Jenna Jameson, in Janine Loves Jenna, which debuted in April 2007.[18]
Personal life
Lindemulder was married to a former construction worker from 1988 to 1996.[9] They had a son named Tyler in 1991. Following this marriage, Lindemulder dated Headbanger's Ball host Riki Rachtman[2] and rock musician Vince Neil. A homemade video tape of Lindemulder, Neil, and actress/former Penthouse Pet Brandy Ledford (who was mosaically-obscured) was leaked and eventually released by the same company that distributed the infamous sex video made by Canadian-born actress/former Playboy model Pamela Anderson and then-husband rock musician Tommy Lee. The explicit footage of Lindemulder engaged in intercourse with Neil predated her "official" boy-girl video debut by several years.[19][20]
Lindemulder re-married in 2002, to West Coast Choppers founder Jesse G. James. Their marriage was documented in the Discovery Channel special Motorcycle Mania 3. The presentation showed a wide range of their relationship: from the marriage ceremony, to Lindemulder throwing a vase at James and being arrested for abuse.[21] Lindemulder and James, who had one daughter together, later divorced.[22][dead link][23]
Lindemulder is a relative of adult entertainer and figure model Kelly Madison.[24]
In August 2008, Lindemulder pled guilty to federal charges of willful failure to pay federal income taxes.[25][26] She had failed to pay over $200,000 in back taxes. She had made a down payment on a $647,000 house and bought two new vehicles, despite being aware of her tax debt. She faced up to one year in prison, and a $100,000 fine.[27]
In December 2008, Lindemulder was sentenced to six months in federal prison. The sentencing judge ordered that she live in a residential community corrections center for up to six months after her release from prison, and, one year of supervised release after that. She was also ordered to pay the estimated $294,000 owed to the U.S. government.[28] She was incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution at Victorville, near Adelanto, California, and was released on July 13, 2009.[29][30] She was planning to blog from prison by writing letters to her webmaster and complete her GED. She also planned to write books about her lesbian sex with other inmates.[30]
During Lindemulder's incarceration, Jesse James was awarded custody of their daughter. Upon Lindemulder's release, James and Lindemulder have been engaged in a custody battle over their daughter.[31][32]
