Jarnac (zhärnäk'), town, Charente dept., in the Cognac region, on the Charente River. At Jarnac in 1569 French Catholics under the duke of Anjou (later Henry III) defeated the Huguenots, whose leader, Louis I, Prince of Condé, was killed.

Jarnac is a commune in the French département of Charente.
It was the site of the myth of the legendary strike , in a judicial duel, Le Coup de Jarnac, on the 10 July 1547, between Guy I Chabot de Jarnac and Francois de Vivonne de la Châtaigneraie, and the Battle of Jarnac in 1569.
