Jarnac is a commune in the French département of Charente.
It was the site of the myth of the legendary strike , in a judicial duel, Le Coup de Jarnac, on the 10 July 1547, between Guy I Chabot de Jarnac and Francois de Vivonne de la Châtaigneraie, and the Battle of Jarnac in 1569.

Jarnac is situated on the right bank of the river Charente between the towns of Angoulême and Cognac.
Jarnac was the birthplace of former president François Mitterrand (26 October 1916 - 8 January 1996) and the region is associated with the finer art of cognac production since the 1800s.
