Biography

The similarity in name and physique has led some people to mistakenly assume that actor Jason Scott Lee is in some way related to the late and legendary Bruce Lee; indeed, he is not. Confusion was compounded when Lee starred in the moderately acclaimed 1993 biopic Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993). It is possible that the younger Lee's "association" with Bruce has prevented him from getting parts of wider range. Lee also starred in the notorious Kevin Reynolds-directed Easter Island fiasco Rapa Nui (1994), and garnered positive reviews for his work in Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book (1994). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Life and career

Lee was born in Los Angeles, California, the son of Sylvia and Robert Lee, a bus driver. [1] Lee was raised in Hawaii and is of Chinese-Hawaiian descent.[2] He attended school at Pearl City High School and is a friend of Carrie Ann Inaba, of Dancing with the Stars, and dated her briefly.

Lee has trained in Bruce Lee's martial art Jeet Kune Do since portraying Lee in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story in 1993. He continues to train and is now a certified instructor under former Bruce Lee student Jerry Poteet. Lee also showed off his martial arts skills in a starring role in the film Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision, the sequel to the original 1994 film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Lee is among the actors, producers and directors interviewed in the documentary The Slanted Screen (2006), directed by Jeff Adachi, about the representation of Asian and Asian American men in Hollywood.

Lee married Diana Chan a Public Relations professional and a native of Singapore in May 2008 on the Big Island of Hawaii. [3]

Lee made his operatic debut in the non-singing role of Pasha Selim in Hawaii Opera Theatre's production of Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio at the Blaisdell Concert Hall in Honolulu, Hawaii, in February 2009.[citation needed]
