Jay Johnson

(ventriloquist)

Jay Johnson (born July 11, 1949 in Richardson, Texas) is a ventriloquist best known for his role on the television show Soap. He played Chuck Campbell, a ventriloquist who never went anywhere (even on dates) without his dummy Bob, who was basically his alter ego and said all the things that Chuck was too polite (or repressed) to say.

His show, "Jay Johnson: The Two and Only" opened on Broadway to rave reviews at the Helen Hayes Theatre on September 28, 2006. In The Two and Only, Jay deconstructs and demonstrates his lifelong obsession (finding your voice and throwing it!), aided and abetted by a “cast” of zany characters, including his “Soap” alter ego, Bob.

Winner of a 2007 Tony Award for "Jay Johnson: The Two and Only."
