(1893–1956)
Romanian architect and critic, who edited L'Architecture Vivante (1923–5), the de luxe Paris journal that promoted Modern architecture and design. He built two houses for himself, at Vézelay (1924) and near the Pont de Sèvres, Paris (1934), and collaborated with Eileen Gray on ‘E-1027’, the Maison en Bord de Mer, a house at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin in the South of France (1926–9) which is a classic Modern building of the period (it filled a whole issue of L'Architecture Vivante). Badovici was a friend of Le Corbusier (who painted murals in the Roquebrune-Cap-Martin house in 1929), and was one of the most influential writers of the Modern Movement.
