The son of Shelemiah. He was sent by Zedekiah the king of Judah, to beg the prophet Jeremiah to pray for the people during the Chaldean siege of Jerusalem (Jer 37:3). Later on, he was among those who urged the king to kill Jeremiah (38:1-4).

The name Jehucal appears on seal-impressions from Tell es-Safi and Lachish (6th century B.C.) and on an ostracon from Arad (7th century B.C.).
